The Laguna Woods History Center (renamed from Historical Society of Laguna Woods in 2015) is a California domestic nonprofit corporation founded in 1977 as the  Leisure World Historical Society of Laguna Hills to be the official repository for community archives.  The organization’s ongoing commitments include collecting, conserving and conveying the local history of Laguna Woods Village, the City of Laguna Woods, and surrounding environs in Orange County.  LWHC is a purpose-designed building completed in 1997 from restrictive donations and is separate from yet adjacent to the Library across the parking lot from Clubhouse One.  LWHC receives no portion of homeowners’ fees so operation depends entirely on donations from concerned citizens and Contributing Partners.  As a public archive, LWHC truly is “Your Place in Local History.”

“LWHC” refers to Laguna Woods History Center in this website’s content.
